Baroness May Blood – inspirational speaker at Magheragall Breakfast

Following the success of last year’s breakfast with Archbishop Robin Eames, this year’s guest speaker was Baroness May Blood at the breakfast at Magheragall Parish on 2nd November.  Forty-two people attended and were given a magnificent breakfast by the Parish Catering Team.  Baroness Blood proved to be a riveting speaker as she talked of her time growing up in West Belfast, working in the linen mills and grappling with the problems of sectarianism and trying to make peace in one of the most difficult areas of Northern Ireland.  Her enthusiasm and passion clearly came through and her talk was liberally interlaced with entertaining anecdotes of her experiences – it was truly an inspirational morning.

Away Morning in Dromore

Magheragall Methodist has a Focus Team, founded some years ago with the aim of improving the spiritual life of the church. At one recent meeting we had one rather negative piece of news which had the potential to cast a bit of gloom on the whole proceedings, but instead someone asked, “I wonder where we’re going to be in five years’ time” and this opened up a whole open and frank discussion about the state of the church. It also confirmed almost exactly the tentative theme, previously suggested for an Away Morning, of “I know where I’m going?”, an event which took place on 26 January in Dromore Methodist and was led by Rev Alan Wardlow, at one time an evangelist in Magheragall. This was a great time of fellowship and discussion and all those present were challenged and enthused. The event was also helped by the great catering provided by Dromore. We will shortly be having another Focus Team meeting and hope to maintain our momentum and put some of the discussions into a more concrete form. Out of a negative comment, the Holy Spirit guided us to a refreshing and optimistic outcome. There’s still a long way to go, but we are going in the right direction.
